OILY CHILI DE ARBOL SALSA
Ana Alarcon
This salsa has been a favorite mine since I was a little girl. Growing up in the center of Mexico this salsa is a must everywhere you go.
The infused oil gives an amazing flavor to anything you add it to, and if you want some spice the chili seeds will do that for you. It is also a super versatile recipe and it can be found mixed with other nuts and seeds and even cranberries.
This is a very basic recipe that my mum shared with me, but feel free to add more things to make your salsa the style you want it. If you do add anything else, please share it with over Instagram, I’d love to see your creations.
OILY CHILE DE ARBOL SALSA
INGREDIENTS:
5-6 garlic cloves
2-2 1/2 cups of chile de Arbol
3 tbsp sesame seeds4 cups of extra virgin olive oil
DIRECTIONS:
Bring a pan to medium-high heat. Add about 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, the entire pan should be evenly coated with oil. Once the oil is hot, reduce heat to medium then add the garlic cloves and cook until a bit brown, do not let overcook otherwise they will turn sour. Set aside.
On the same oil add the chili and fry until golden brown, but not burned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
On the same oil add the sesame seeds and fry until golden brown, it should take a minute or two. Move constantly. Set aside.
Place the fried garlic and chili on a blender, and blend until everything has been ground perfectly.
Place the ground garlic and chili on a jar or container, mix the sesame seeds and add the oil.
Mix until everything is combined.
TIPS:
When frying the chilis make sure to ventilate your house, the smell can be a bit hard in your nose and eyes.
Feel free to use avocado oil instead of olive oil
You can also add other nuts or seeds, and season it with a bit of salt.
A staple in our house. This spicy peanut sauce is one of our favorite ones. It is one of those that makes you feel good, is comforting, easy to do and can be used in many ways.
